NATO Membership for Ukraine to Hit Russian Tech Co-op

The level of military and technical cooperation between Russia and Ukraine could fall if the latter joins NATO, the Russian defense minister said Tuesday. Sergei Ivanov said: "This is possible in principle." Ivanov said there could also be other consequences in different fields. According to Ivanov, who is also a deputy prime minister of Russia, every state has the sovereign right to decide if it joins an organization. However, the minister struck a note of caution saying Ukraine's potential membership of NATO was not purely a political matter, but also concerned "the economy and a few other issues.
